Five members of the University of Southern Mississippi pep band have been removed from the band and had their scholarships revoked by the pompous, self-righteous school administration. The life-changing discipline for the wicked offenders wasn't for destruction of school property, drunkenness, drug usage, assault on a fellow student, or even for knocking up a drunken coed. It was something much worse. It was so bad that the school also saw fit to mandate a "cultural sensitivity training course" for the evildoers. They participated in a "racist chant" at a recent b-ball game. Oh my God, the humanity of it! To receive this severe punishment you can only imagine how awful the "chant" was, probably calling some opposing player a "dyke", "wetback," "spic," "queer," or, God forbid, a "nigger." No, they are being punished for chanting, "Where's your green card" to an Hispanic player on the opposing team. Fortunately for the champions of political correctness, a thorough investigation and the wonders of video tape disclosed the identities of the guilty parties so they could be brought to justice. The students at U of SM can sleep soundly in their beds tonight with the knowledge that these "chanters" will no longer be allowed to ruin university sporting events by yelling "green card." All is right with the world. The ladies were always most generous in displaying all or most of their skin. Later in the day and evening, the venue was taken over by the din of acid rock and rowdy drunks of course.

• Now the bands and the drunks are moving closer to Shinbone's nerve center. That should keep the Ralston and LaVista cops busy and the traffic on 72nd Street even more maddening!

Finally, over the past week, hundreds of stories were published on the Internet, in newspapers and broadcast on television and radio, about Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's shocking findings, announced last Thursday, that Barack Obama's birth certificate is fraudulent. Apparently, it took that long for the media to find a way to discredit the first law-enforcement investigation into the matter. After first attempting to impugn Arpaio's motives during the press conference, few news outlets bothered to report anything about the six-month probe. The few that did, besides WND, mostly characterized the press conference as conspiracy-mongering or political silliness – until they found what they considered to be the realhook. Here are a few select headlines from those stories: Arpaio's volunteer investigator profits from birther probe --“ TPMMUCKRAKER Arizona sheriff's Obama investigator selling book -- ASSOCIATED PRESS Arizona sheriff's Obama investigation lacks credibility “ TUCSON CITIZEN You get the picture. Because Mike Zullo, the lead investigator for Arpaio's Cold Case Posse, has, with the help of WND's Jerome Corsi, put the findings of the investigation in an inexpensive e-book format for the public, the entire investigation is suspect. The entire point of the e-book project was to go over the heads of the media, which have almost universally hidden and obfuscated the facts of Obama's eligibility from the public. And, keep in mind, Zullo participated in the criminal investigation as a volunteer --“ getting involved reluctantly and skeptically and with no pre-conceived conclusions. So who is in a more compromised position to present facts -- them or Zullo? As I've said before, I've been in the news business for more than 35 years. In that time, I have never seen the press go so totally in the tank on any big story the way they have in the case of Obama's eligibility. They are no longer just protecting Obama. They are now protecting their own reputations. Having not only missed one of the most important stories of our time, but having distorted it, misrepresented it, lied about it and attacked those trying to present the truth, they are as vulnerable as Obama himself. And that's why their new favorite whipping boys are Arpaio and Zullo. I urge you to make a donation to this active investigation right now – no matter the amount. Another example of free speech with a karmic twist. The soon-to-be heroine, minding her own business, was passed by another driver and "flipped off" for driving too slow, apparently. Soon thereafter the "flipper's" vehicle was in a tree and ablaze, the driver frantically struggling to extricate her child, both of them on fire. The "flippee" rescued them at her own peril. Happy ending, story over?

• But the writer of this article failed to explore the deeper issue of seat belt dangers.
